Anh is a grade 11 student at the Luong Van Tuy secondary school and has lived with his mother, a poor farmer, since his father died when he was a child.
According to baoninhbinh, a Ninh Binh Province newswire, he won the top mathematics prize in his district every year of his four years at junior high school.
In 2008 he won the province’s premier mathematics prize and Danang’s annual amateur youth computer science competition.
He was one of four chosen for the Vietnamese team to the IOI.
The IOI is an annual computer science competition for secondary school students and it was held from August 16 to 21 this year at the University of Waterloo.
Vietnam has won at least a medal at every Olympiad since its inception in 1989.
