Australia: The Aussie jumps as unemployment rate decreases to 5.1%; 30.9K new jobs

FXstreet.com (Córdoba) - The Australian unemployment rate decreased 0.2 percentage points to 5.1% (seasonally adjusted) in August, the Australian Bureau of Statistics announced today. This rate follows a 5.3% unemployment rate the previous month and is slightly lower than the forecasted 5.2%.

On the other hand, employment change ascended to 30.9K in August sharply higher than the 25.0K expected.

"Employment increased 30,900 (0.3%) to 11,272,000. Unemployment decreased 22,500 (-3.6%) to 607,700. Participation rate decreased 0.1 pt to 65.4%", said the Australian Bureau of Statistics today.

The AUD jumped around 50 pips against the Greenback after the release. AUD/USD broke above the 0.9220 level, while AUD/JPY rose over 40 pips to a new high at 77.40. AUD/NZD climbed to the 1.2765 area and EUR/AUD fell to a new record low at 1.3787.
